Indie Daydreamer Sofia Machray Releases Brand New Single ‘Twirl’

Wellington-based indie dream-pop songstress Sofia Machray has released her first stand-alone single of the year, Twirl, expertly co-produced expertly co-produced with engineer Will McGillivray (Goodwill, NOMAD) and mastered by Greg Obis (Slow Pulp, Babehoven, Mia Joy).
Due for release today, December 5th, Twirl echoes the spirit of Sofia Machray’s 2023 debut EP Language of Flowers. Written during the same period but left off the final tracklist, the song offers a glimpse into the remaining work from that era, closing the chapter on Language of Flowers before opening the door to a new project.
“Twirl remained in the shadows of the Language of Flowers era, it never found its place on the project, although it was written alongside it. Releasing it now feels like I’m finally putting that chapter to bed before stepping into something new.” – Sofia Machray
Described as ‘New Zealand’s brightest new singer-songwriter’, Machray was quick to win the hearts of music lovers close to home and abroad after the release of Language of Flowers. The record received tremendous support from international and local media, leading her to tour nationally on multiple occasions and share stages with world-renowned indie icons such as Chet Faker, Palace, Lime Cordiale, Ball Park Music, and gaining recognition from Sharon Van Etten.
With grace, glistening sonics, and an unfiltered honesty that leaves an instant, lasting mark… Sofia Machray is without a doubt an artist-to-watch moving forward.” – Atwood Magazine
Twirl is now available on all streaming platforms.
