From the rolling hills of New Zealand’s King Country to the international stage, award-winning singer-songwriter and producer Merv Pinny has carved out a musical journey as authentic as it is inspiring. Known for his fiery blend of funky rock, blues, and country rock, Merv has captivated audiences worldwide, amassing more than 30 million streams, over 80 million video impressions, and close to 300,000 followers.

Merv’s story begins in the rural town of Te Aroha, where he bought his first guitar at the age of ten – a $10 treasure from his older brother. By twelve, he was already playing in a family band, balancing rugby matches with noisy rehearsals that nearly drove his mother mad. Those early days set the stage for a life where music and hard work would forever go hand in hand.

At fifteen, Merv left school to work full-time on a dairy farm, a demanding role that required grit and resilience. Yet, at night, he transformed into a performer, playing music six nights a week. This unusual combination of farming by day and music by night forged a dual identity: a determined agricultural entrepreneur and a passionate storyteller through song.

Today, Merv calls Northland home, where he continues to write, compose, and produce music through his own company, M Music Ltd. Beyond his own artistry, he is a dedicated mentor and community supporter. He has played countless fundraising events, toured across New Zealand, and released songs that have gone viral, resonating with listeners around the globe.

Never one to stand still, Merv recently launched an initiative called the “Local Launchpad” in the Far North. Its mission is simple but powerful: to help emerging original artists connect with each other and their audiences, providing the same kind of encouragement and opportunity that fuelled Merv’s own career.
