Introducing Hot Bites – Aotearoa’s newest showcase of underground music talent

Hot Bites lands at Dead Witch on Thursday November 6, showcasing four of Aotearoa’s freshest underground voices in a night built for heat, heart, and hype. Katie-Lee, Lee Connor, BEX, and Basely each bring their own sonic fingerprint – ranging from introspective indie pop, to rock and roll, to genre-bending bangers.
Katie-Lee crafts intimate, heart-on-sleeve songs inspired by Holly Humberstone and Phoebe Bridgers. Their music is vulnerable, reflective, and deeply human, designed to connect. Lee Connor delivers high-voltage energy and a setlist stacked with fresh material. Expect hooks, grit, and a live presence that hits hard.
BEX is in the middle of a bold rebrand, and her latest single Clearly is a mission statement: lush, bossa-tinged pop with vintage synths, layered harmonies, and lyrics that speak to identity, growth, and self-acceptance. She’s played Spark Arena and The Tuning Fork, but this new era is all about emotional resonance and indie polish. Basely, also known as Mae from Grapehouse, brings a stripped-back, indie folk edge. Her latest single Zombies Used To Be Humans is haunting and melodic, exploring the fragility of connection with poetic clarity.
Doors open at 8pm, but the night starts early with Happy Hour in the main bar from 7pm to 8pm, offering discounts on house drinks for early arrivals. After the show, stick around for a second Happy Hour from 12am to 1am and enjoy a late-night special before heading home. The kitchen’s open for dine-in all night with a tight menu of fried favourites and vegetarian options.
